Special Issue 2009 : Bee Conservation (July 2009) |
Bee Conservation
Guest editors: Robert J. Paxton, Mark J.F. Brown, Tomás E. Murray
The conservation of bees has never been of such pressing concern. As the world’s population continues to grow, global pressures on bee populations are increasing in parallel with our reliance on the ecosystem service of pollination that they provide. This special edition of Apidologie brings some of the world’s leading experts to bear on the present-day status of bees and their conservation, from broad geographic and taxonomic perspectives. As well as a useful resource of the state of the field today, it also provides a manifesto of where we need to go in the future to ensure the long-term survival of bees, and of the essential service of pollination that they provide.
