Particularly in feral colonies nesting in tree cavities, honey bees secure the site of comb attachment on the hive wall with propolis. In some cases, as can be seen here (same feral colony as in Fig. 1), the rim of comb cells will also have a thin coating of propolis. The function and significance of this behavior is currently unknown.
